Wavejam is a new series of windsurfing events.

We aim to run 4 events each year to coincide with the gnarliest conditions hitting the British Isles; when big storms approach, we'll head to the perfect location where strong winds and huge surf combine. This gives us the best chance of riding in amazing conditions and showing the world what British windsurfing is really about.

We're lucky to have some fantastic coastline for windsurfing on our doorstep; the Northeast coast of Scotland and England regularly gets pounded by North Sea winter storms, Likwise the West coast of Ireland feeling the full force of Atlantic swells and all those other spots around the UK which come to life on their day. We also have an extremely high level of sailing in the UK with many current World Tour sailors and a wealth of hardcore rippers dedicated to their sport.

Goals

We've all been chasing radical conditions individually for years -it's what we do. Wavejam hopes to bring this level of windsurfing to the publics attention; gathering as much media as possible and getting it out there for all the world to see -raising the profile of windsurfing and it's top riders. We feel that windsurfing at it's highest level deserves the same attention, kudos and dollars as it's peers.

This increased coverage will be good for the sailors, the industry, the magazines and the sponsors.

There are of course the same benefits as with any form of competition: like minded enthusiasts get to enjoy their sport together, learn from the best and push each other. And in Wavejam's case this will be in the best possible arena (no hanging around at windless locations or wasted journeys)

Wavejam timetable

This is how a Wavejam works and the events are called. Forecasts are studied on the internet during the week preceding a Jam and notifications sent by email. If you wish to get on the invite list, please email the organisors through the contacts page.

TUESDAY: First possible 'heads up' by email for a weekend event if forecast looks promising.

THURSDAY: Wavejam is 'called' via email if forecast is suitable.

FRIDAY: Final call and instructions if conditions are still looking epic. Option to cancel if necessary as forecast has deteriorated.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY: If it's necessary to make last minute change of location, entrants notified by text. 10am briefing and signing on for all entrants. First possible start 11am.

Format

Wavejam has 3 formats of competition.

POWER HOUR: This is an hour where we focus on getting all sailors on the water and all photographers/filmer's recording the action.

EXPRESSION SESSION: 30 minute session where sailors are judged for best wave or jump.

MINI COMP: Entrants are split into 2 groups. We run a Semi-final for each, then a final for the top 8. Sailors not in a heat will judge.

Judging criteria to be decided on the day and will be conditions dependent. Power hours and expression session may be judged by the organisors, or by online voting.

The 'winner' of a Wavejam event will be the 'standout' sailor from the whole day or weekend. Results are of less importance however than having fun, time on the water and getting sick shots in the can!

Rules

There are no rules. We only ask that you enjoy yourselves and do your best to promote the sport we love. Wavejam is free to enter, you must however be a member of the UKWA -this will provide your personal insurance and our event insurance.

Sponsorship

Want to be a part of the action? A healthy, bright and dynamic sport that visits all four corners of the British Isles with 5m² billboards?

We're now looking for a suitably cool headline sponsor. Think your brand can fit the bill? Then get in touch for a proposal.

We also have a second level of single event sponsorship. Sponsor a Wavejam and you'll be included in all coverage for that event.

Thanks
